If you have been following politics for the past two months, you might have noticed something wrong with Donald Trump’s political opposition that wasn’t there in 2017. Remember 2017? When the Democrats and their proxies all stood in ironclad formation against Trump and his agenda?
Yeah, that doesn’t seem to be happening this go round. The Democrats are leaderless and fighting amongst themselves. Chuck Schumer of all people just got an earful from the most annoying people possible after refusing to commit political suicide and shut down the government.
There is some resistance, mainly from the judiciary branch, but it really seems like the great phalanx liberals had in 2017 has been scattered by the battering ram that is Trump Part Two. I think they believed and went all in on the Kamala Harris astroturfed hype to the point where they had no backup plan for losing 2024.
Not only that, but I don’t even think that they thought losing the popular vote alongside the seven swing states was even a possibility in their mind. After all, a Republican had not won the popular vote since 2004, so why would they now, especially Donald Trump of all people?
Looking past the razor thin margin in the House of Representatives, 2024 was a beatdown for the Democratic Party. It proved once and for all that the narratives they peddled for four years didn’t matter to anyone.
Remember all that alarmism about January 6th? Remember how they thought that would sink Trump’s candidacy because the country would come out to defend democracy? Well, it didn’t. Post January 6th Trump was ironically more popular than he was before January 6th.
As a result of every narrative being destroyed, the Democrats have no idea on how to play offense this go round. We saw this with the potential government shutdown. There was a faction of Dems who wanted the government to shut down and there was Schumer who, apparently being the smartest Democrat in congress, realized that Trump would benefit either way.
You had the safe blue state and blue district Democrats start nagging on Schumer (himself from a safe blue state) because he didn’t shut the government down and passed a Trump endorsed spending bill. Geniuses started pushing AOC to run for New York senate.
Aside from the government funding bill debacle, Democrats also cannot seem to find a unifying message for the next election. You have people like AOC and Bernie Sanders barnstorming multiple places talking about oligarchy.
Bernie Sanders, who was asleep for the past four years as the Biden administration worked with tech giants and social media platforms to silence dissent from Americans (until Musk happened) is now all of a sudden concerned about rich people in politics again.
To his credit, he has conceded a portion of the argument on immigration, stating that Biden should have done much better in stemming the tide of illegal immigration.
The problem is, despite being on record saying things like open borders are “Koch Brother proposals,” he sure as heck seemed to capitulate to the open borders crowd from 2017-2024. I also find it difficult to trust him on border security when he is campaigning with AOC, who is an advocate for illegal aliens.
Speaking of AOC, I have a feeling that she is being groomed for a presidential run in 2028. Why else would Sanders be barnstorming with her? While Bernie is much more mentally there than Biden, I think he recognizes that he is too old for another run and wants to pass the torch to someone else.
AOC is the most prominent leftist in the House and represents one of New York’s most diverse communities. Who else is there to hold the torch of American cosmopolitan leftism, which has long left the American working class in favor of foreign fringes?
I cannot think of any better gift to the Republicans if AOC is who the Democratic Party nominates for president in 2028. She is basically a younger version of Kamala Harris with just as much ability to string sentences together.
While AOC and Bernie Sanders are out fighting oligarchy, another fighter has entered the fray. It’s our good friend Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota. The guy who was on the losing ticket back in November. Somehow, he thinks he can do better if you just give him a second chance.
Now, like AOC, I don’t know if he is officially throwing his hat in the 2028 ring, but judging by his actions it wouldn’t surprise me if he did. Out of everybody involved in Harris’ loss, Walz seemed to be the one who received the least blame.
In fact, there are those in Democratic circles who believe that Harris could have won had she allowed Tim Walz to be himself instead of the sanitized version of himself that the campaign presented to the country.
This is laughable, of course. Walz always felt like a parody of a Democratic white man. Yeah, he did one good thing during his tenure, giving kids free school lunches, but that’s about it. Didn’t make him any less of an inept clown when it came to dealing with the riots in 2020 that spawned in his state.
He went on this weird tirade about Trump supporters and how he could kick most of their asses as well. What the heck is it with Democratic politicians saying this silly stuff? Remember back in 2016 when Biden said he wanted to take Trump out behind the gym? Stop. It’s not intimidating.
I suppose he also believes that he doesn’t deserve any blame despite being a part of the worst performing Democratic ticket in recent decades because he sure is running his mouth off at every opportunity. Go ahead though, double down on a losing strategy.
Then you even have problems at the city level. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has thrown his hat in the ring to become the next mayor. The guy who resigned as governor due to sexual harassment.
Not only that, but there is a Ugandan born foreigner by the name of Zohran Mamdani also running. Mamdani received some flack over his comments suggesting that the city open government ran supermarkets. You just know the criminal element of the city with flock to those like moths to a flame.
Oh, and we cannot forget the genius idea of the DNC to name David Hogg as vice-chair. The last gasp of the resistlibs. Surely Hogg’s efforts will work this time. I have never seen someone more benefited from a tragedy than this guy.
Conclusion
It is safe to say that the Democratic Party is currently lacking unified direction. At worst, they have no direction at all, and at best, they are repeating the same mistakes that led to their loss in 2024, often being on the 20% side of an 80/20 issue.
The saving grace for them is that they have nearly three years to get some sort of reorganization going on. They should count themselves lucky that Bernie Sanders is a cuck and won’t split off his faction to form their own party.
If Democrats want to win, they need to focus on what the majority wants instead of what the fringe minority wants. Go back to caring about labor issues and healthcare instead of sexual fetishism and illegal immigration.
Being anti-Trump by itself may have worked in the 2018 midterms and perhaps in 2020, but it is clear that running on not being Trump by itself is no longer a winning strategy as the Trump agenda is shown to be popular in many aspects.
The most pressing issue that they must deal with is the direction of their party. From 2017, they have become a coalition of liberals, neoconservatives, corporate interests, and democratic socialists. This is not sustainable. One of these factions will need to assert dominance or the entire thing will fall apart.
It doesn’t really matter to me though. I think they got what they deserved in November. They were arrogant, even when the evidence against them grew. They refused to listen to the American people and thus were thrown out. They had the audacity to blame Americans for the problems we faced.
It will be interesting to watch how this interparty fight plays out.
