There has been this annoying game of chicken being played by Texas and the Biden administration. The Biden administration has refused to stem the tide of thousands of illegal aliens flooding across the border over the past four years.
In response, Texas authorities have taken it on themselves to do the federal government’s job for them. However, the Supreme Court has said that Texas cannot take action by itself to enforce border policy, as that is the federal government’s jurisdiction.
So now it has gotten to the point where Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has decided that he is just going to enforce immigration law anyhow, no matter what the Supreme Court says. A decision to halt the new Texas law that allowed migrants to be detained was just extended again today, and Governor Abbott has made it clear he will not comply.
This means that we now have this conundrum of jurisdictions between the federal government and the state governments. Let me tell you, this should be a very easy problem to solve.
Secure the border.
I don’t know what Joe Biden is thinking by letting the border situation get this bad. Border security should be a bipartisan agreement. No civilization in the history of the world survived after letting in large amounts of people unvetted.
Yet somehow, the man thinks he is powerless on this issue. That he needs some sort of border bill when in actuality he as the chief executive of our country, with the power to enforce all the laws wherein, and as this is the case, he can utilize all federal resources necessary to lock down the border.
This game he is playing with Governor Abbott is one that he will lose because the facts are against him. The federal government does not have the right to just pick and choose what laws to enforce. The Supreme Court says that states do not have power over the border. That’s all well and good. Everyone agrees.
However, the argument isn’t about who has power over the border. The argument is that the people who do have power over the border need to actually do their jobs. They cannot just sit there and then start crying jurisdiction when others pick up the slack.
Seriously, Biden, your approval rating on this issue should already tell you that you need to reverse course fast. There is nothing to be gained by trying to prove whatever point you want to make, which I am still trying to figure out.
I’m serious, if there is anyone who follows me that can inform me of the angle Biden is coming from here, please do so. I don’t see any excuse for his lack of action other than personal disagreements that people may have with Abbott.
Donald Trump, whether you agreed with him or not, showed us that federal resources could be utilized to actually secure the border. He sent down the Army in 2018 and used funds from other agencies to begin construction on his wall project.
If Donald Trump, with all his inexperience and chaotic energy, could do something competently, there is no reason why Joe Biden, with all his experience and calm energy, can’t do the same.
Motivations
Perhaps I am thinking too much into the competency and not enough into whether this is by design. After all, very powerful people seem to really want more illegal immigration into this country.
The big business capitalists that want more cheap and exploitable labor may be a factor here. They have loads of money, and I would not be surprised if they have donated large amounts to Biden if he is being this stubborn on a common sense issue.
After all, hiring illegal labor is a good way to avoid following labor laws, which in turn makes it cheaper to run a business. All of the progress we have made in a century for labor rights, just vaporized by this issue masquerading as humanitarianism.
Or maybe I am being to harsh on Biden, and he actually believes in the open borders utopianism that people are talking about these days. Perhaps there is no nefarious motives at all.
Conclusion
Regardless, it still doesn’t take away the fact that there is a problem, people have been crying for help, and they have been ignored. Now, the people are taking action into their own hands where their government has failed them.
Whatever Joe Biden is thinking, the fact is that his approval is underwater on this issue. People clearly do not like how he has handled the border. This shows that people still want adequate border security. This doesn’t have to come in the form of a wall, but something needs to give.
I have tried to come at this issue from a very middle of the road viewpoint, but no matter how much I figure it, I cannot see any justification for President Biden’s clear dereliction of duty. In my humble opinion, such a dereliction is an impeachable offense as it actively harms the well being of the nation and people.
Until he explains himself or reverses course on this problem, things will only get worse for him. There is no way that he can spin this that improves his image. He has had almost four years to fix this issue and he hasn’t. Hopefully the next president, whoever that may be, does a better job.
